Streamlined Electric Vehicle Charging Installations
DCC provides electricians with a simplified installation process for electric vehicle chargers where the electrical panel is at full capacity.
DCC units, or Demand Charge Controllers for electric vehicles, are safety devices with programmable components that protect the electrical distribution circuit. The devices prevent major electrical infrastructure upgrades by allowing the addition of a charger on a panel at full capacity.
Designed with electricians in mind, DCC units do not affect the buildings load calculation.
Should the electrical demand of the main breaker exceed 80%, the controllers prevent the circuit from overloading by momentarily turning off the power to the charger. In practice, common charging habits rarely trip the safety device as most owners plug in while sleeping when energy consumption is at its lowest.
Installing a DCC is the rough equivalent of adding a conventional oven to a home from scratch.
Devices can be wall or ceiling mounted; exterior installations require 3R configurations.
CERTIFICATIONS
UL 508
CSA 22.2 No. 14
RECOVERY TIME (RT)
Following a power cut to the DCC device, a 15 minutes delay is initiated to monitor the total consumption of the electrical power system. Power to the electric vehicle charger will be restored if the total load consumption is lower than 80% of the main circuit breaker rating during a period exceeding the 15 minutes’ recovery time.
MAIN POWER SUPPLY (CB)
The DCC, Charge Controller for Electric Vehicles, can be powered by a 240/208V AC single phase source.
SECONDARY LOAD SUPPLY (EVC)
The DCC, Charge Controller for Electric Vehicles, will provide power to a charging station through a 30A, 40A, 50A or 60A 240/208V AC circuit breaker, L1, L2 and ground. DCC devices are equipped with a Square D circuit breaker (QUO230, QUO240, QUO250 or QUO260).
TRIP PERCENTAGE (TP)
The DCC, Charge Controller for Electric Vehicles, is factory set to turn off the charging station if the total consumption of a service exceeds 80%. For other configurations, please contact the factory.
POWER OUTAGE
In the event of a power outage, the DCC, Charge Controller for Electric Vehicles, automatically restores the power supply to the vehicle charging station when power returns.
WARRANTY
Thermolec Ltée. warrants the integrated controls against any defects for a period of one year from the shipping date.
DCC-9
DCC-9 was designed to fit the evolving needs of homeowners seeking to install charging in multi-residential homes. These residents have a handful of complexities that are not seen in stand-alone homes.
Installations in multi-unit homes need to keep in mind that (unlike a detached home) the electrical meters for all units are generally housed in an electrical room with their corresponding electrical panels residing within the owner’s unit.
If an installation were to be carried out in the same manner as a detached home (assuming that the panel isn’t at full capacity) a wire would need to be brought from the owners unit, down through the building and finally to the parking stall where the electric car would be plugged in– a nightmare scenario for approving condo boards and the tenant footing the entire bill. This is the first hurdle overcome by DCC-9.
AN INSTALLATION WITHIN REACH
DCC-9 creates a link between the electrical meter and electrical panel without needing to be in physical proximity to the electrical panel. Apartment owners on any floor now have a feasible electric vehicle charging installation. Wiring only needs to be run from DCC-9 to the electric vehicle charger at the parking stall.
Devices can be wall or ceiling mounted; exterior installations require 3R configurations. Different configurations are available depending on electrical entries. DCC units never change the load capacity of a building.
DIRECT BILLING
A main concern for condo boards and governing bodies in multi-residential homes is installing an electric vehicle charger away from the common energy supply. This is extremely important as buildings want to remain fair to their tenants.
DCC units are linked directly to the units’ electrical meter and electrical panel, entirely avoiding the common energy supply. All energy consumed is billed to the unit that consumed the energy.
Unlike other charging solutions for multi-unit homes a where a networked, or smart charger, is required, DCC is compatible with any brand of electric vehicle charger and no additional management is needed.
Devices can be wall or ceiling mounted; exterior installations require 3R configurations. Different configurations are available depending on electrical entries. DCC units never change the load capacity of a building.
MODULAR INSTALLATION
As DCC units do not alter the load calculation, installations can be completed on a per-request basis as condo boards no not worry about needing costly electrical upgrades for the building.
For full electrification of a condo building by retrofit see DCC-9-PCB.

DCC-10
DCC-10 provides a viable and affordable solution for homeowners making the switch to sustainable transport who would otherwise need an electrical panel upgrade. This is achieved by DCC-10 with real-time energy management.
These units were designed with electricians in mind and do not affect the load calculation.
Common charging routines, often determined by peak-power rates, encourage overnight charging when demand is low. Should DCC-10 detect that 80% of the total energy capacity is required by the home it will temporarily deactivate the electric vehicle charger. When the Recovery Time is reached the electric vehicle charger will be re-electrified.
Devices can be wall or ceiling mounted; exterior installations require 3R configurations. Configurations are available depending on electrical entries.
SAME-TIME INSTALLATION
DCC-10 is installed in conjunction with the electric vehicle charger and dependant on the home layout can be installed inside or outside.

DCC-9-BOX and DCC-9-PCB
As it becomes a competitive advantage to offer electric vehicle charging, buildings are being proactively retrofitted with DCC-9-BOX. This is a partial installation of DCC-9 and allows for global installations at a fraction of the cost.
DCC-9-BOX is converted to a DCC-9 with the addition of the internal components, DCC-9-PCB.
Devices can be wall or ceiling mounted; exterior installations require 3R configurations. Different configurations are available depending on electrical entries. DCC units never alter the load capacity of a building.
AESTHETIC CONDO INSTALLATIONS
Implementing DCC-9-BOX with a global installation is advantageous for cable management and strategic deployment. These types of installations are generally preferred by condo boards when there is strong project support from tenants. Internally dubbed “spaghetti monsters” are avoided by proper and organized cable management.
FUTURE PROOFING
DCC-9-BOX is essentially an empty box with the future in mind. The heavy lifting was completed with the initial installation of the box, the DCC-9-PCB upgrade is only purchased when the owner is ready for an electric vehicle charger. As DCC is compatible with any brand of electric vehicle charger the best choice is kept open.
REDUCED UNIT PRICING
Boxes are priced to become affordable for a wide range of buildings, budgets, and projects. We strongly believe that affordable access to electric vehicle charging is key in advancing sustainable transport.
